Goshen Middle School embodies the philosophy that learning should be student-centered, taking its cues from young people’s interests, concerns, and questions. A key element involves building on the natural curiosity children bring to school and asking them what they want to learn. Teachers also draw on their deep understanding of children’s developmentally characteristic needs and interests to design experiences that lead students into areas that they will enjoy and engage in deeply. The key is to help all students think more critically and become competent problem solvers.
