Orchestra

Strings instruction in the Goshen Community Schools is a sequential program spanning elementary through high school. Beginning instruction starts in the fifth grade on violin, viola, cello and bass. Students completing the fifth grade beginning level or at least one year of instruction on their instrument then have the opportunity to continue at the middle school in sixth, seventh and eighth grade for intermediate to advanced technique instruction. GMS orchestra classes meet daily for 70-minute classes and are year-long courses.

Visit the Orchestra Program's website.

Annual Performances

All orchestras perform in the winter, spring, and ISSMA Organizational concerts. Opportunities for participation in Chamber music studies and ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest are also available in January/February each year. Performances for seventh and eighth grade orchestras also include a fall Coffee Concert combined with the high school orchestras and a competition performance in the Music in the Parks Competition in the spring each year.

Summer orchestra opportunities are offered for beginning fifth grade students as well as performance and enrichment classes for grades 6-8 including a fiddle club.
