School Counseling & Guidance

Mission: School counselors at Goshen Middle School believe that all students deserve the instruction and services needed to prepare for success at the next educational level, including sound guidance and counseling services. Therefore, it is the mission of the Goshen Middle School Counseling Program to enable all students to experience educational success by providing the following services: 1) guidance in the areas of academic, career, and citizenship development; 2) counseling to help students overcome challenges that interfere with learning; and 3) advocacy for an environment that supports high achievement for all students. Through the school counseling program, students become successful learners, responsible citizens, and productive members of a global economy.

Programming:

The GMS School Counseling & Guidance program follows the guidelines of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model which includes services around the domains of:

  • Academic
  • College/Career/Post-secondary
  • Personal/Social

and includes direct services to students such as:

  • classroom guidance
  • small group support/counseling
  • individual support & counseling

as well as indirect student services such as:

  • Consultation with parents, school staff, and outside agencies
  • Collaborative support
  • Referrals to outside agencies
